Chief Bergen is a 23-year member of the Prince Albert Police Service and throughout his career he has had opportunity to experience a vast array of responsibilities and assignments. Of note, he played an instrumental part in the professionalization of the use of force structure with respect to training and oversight for the PA Police Service and was the lead instructor for 9 years. He was also a part of the reformation of the use of force oversight committee during major changes to policy and reporting for the service.
He has done extensive work with the K-9 services division, serving from 2002-2009 and was established as an expert with respect to police dogs by the Court of Queen’s Bench and provincial courts in Saskatchewan. His experience with police dogs established him as the service’s trainer and later took him to the FBI to instruct a seminar to Special Agents of the Hostage Rescue Team in 2012. The opportunity to work with the FBI was a proud and memorable career experience.
During his career, Chief Bergen was involved with the Prince Albert Police Association and spent four years as vice president, while also serving on the National Canadian Police Canine Association board.
Prior to his appointment as Chief, he worked in the Criminal Investigations Division with the police service, overseeing integrated policing units and major crime investigations. During this time, he enrolled in the Canadian Police College Executive Development Leadership Course and led the strategic change project of performance management for the Prince Albert Police Service.
Chief Bergen was appointed Chief of Police in November 2018 and proudly leads 100 sworn officers and 27 civilian members focused on visible policing, community safety, and a healthy community.
